How to prepare for an Interview ?

It gives the interviewer a complete idea of how the rest of your interview will pan out.

Here are a few tips that can be beneficial in making your preparation good and effective :-

  • There is no point going for an interview if you don't have even 1% idea about the company you are applying to, so better do some research to start off.
  • Now, you can start thinking of some relevant questions from the knowledge you gained.
  • Applied for a post and don't know what it is ? Never make such a mistake by ignoring your job description and why you feel you are perfect for that job.
  • Confidence. Its necessary to succeed but Over-confidence !! It will ruin you. No matter how good and talented you are give yourself time to prepare and rehearse properly.
  • Try stepping into interviewer's mind and demonstrate these attributes during an interview and you will be surprised to see how far you go : confidence, professionalism, integrity, positive attitude, honesty, good communication skills etc.

Mistakes to be avoided in HR Interviews

Guidance is what every interviewee expects from everyone which could help him nail the job interview he has applied for.

So here are some of the mistakes that most candidates make during an interview and it is recommended you avoid them to stand a best chance of going through.

  • Your first impression is what that counts, in the initial stages of an interview. Make sure your resume has a proper format and is free of grammatical and spelling errors. Since you are going for an interview don't forget to wear formals ironed properly and avoid being a shoddy and casual dresser. Don't give an impression of you being disorganized by having documents which are stored haphazardly. Most important avoid being late i.e value time.
  • When asked about the company, avoid saying " I could not go through your site or I didn't understand what was written there". All this shows either you don't want to put in an effort or you are least bothered about the company. As said before in earlier posts, give yourself time to understand the company. No need to rush through.
  • As often said " Honesty is the best policy ", this is the best time to follow it. If you had some personal problems, its better you speak it out freely if you feel comfortable. It will help you build trust. Never say I don't have any weakness. It gives an impression you are not self aware. So spend some time analyzing your strengths and weaknesses rather than trying to make attempts to make a positive statement sound negative.
  • Next comes in your body language. Avoid limp handshake. You would certainly not like to show in front of recruiter that you are nervous by doing so or looking at your hands or room all the time. Don't make the recruiter feel you are not serious by over-relaxing means don't lean back on your chair. Sit straight and make a firm grip while shaking hands.
  • All's well that ends well, so it is important you finish off well. Mostly recruiters give you a chance at the end to ask some questions if you would like too. Avoid making weak statements or questions like I don't have any questions or salary related questions.
